Jakarta<\/a><\/strong> \u2013 The Ministry of Communication and Informatics (Kemkominfo<\/a>) has officially issued Ministerial Regulation Number 5 of 2023 (PM 5\/2023) which regulates the use of the radio frequency spectrum for analog broadcasts (AM and FM) and digital technology (DAB+ and DRM). This regulation aims to accelerate the adoption of the digital radio ecosystem in Indonesia, which is expected to bring a bright future for the Publishing industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In order to support the implementation of PM 5\/2023, the Ministry of Communication and Information held a workshop and socialization entitled “Digital Radio: The Future of Broadcasting in Indonesia.” This activity took place on October 8-9, 2024 at the Borobudur Hotel, Jakarta. Denny Setiawan, Director of Resource Management, conveyed the importance of collaboration between various parties to develop the digital radio ecosystem in Indonesia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Digital Radio as the Future of Broadcasting<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Denny Setiawan emphasized that radio has a vital role in conveying information since the early 20th century. He emphasized the importance of cooperation between regulators, broadcasters, and receiver manufacturers in accelerating the development of digital radio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Collaboration between regulators, broadcasters, and receiver manufacturers is essential to accelerate the digital radio ecosystem in Indonesia. With good regulation, technological innovation, and support from all parties, digital radio will have a bright future,”said Denny.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

PM 5\/2023 covers technical and operational provisions for the use of the radio frequency spectrum for radio broadcasting services via terrestrial media. This regulation is the legal basis for adopting digital technologies, such as DAB+ (Digital Audio Broadcasting) and DRM (Digital Radio Mondiale), which have been used in several countries and Publishing companies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Socialization to Support the Implementation of Digital Technology<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This socialization aims to provide understanding to all stakeholders about terrestrial radio technology, how it works, and strategic plans that have been prepared by the Ministry of Communication and Information. Denny hopes that this activity can increase awareness and readiness of stakeholders in supporting digital transformation in the radio broadcasting sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Through this workshop, we hope that stakeholders can understand terrestrial radio technology, know how it works, and support Kominfo’s future plans to accelerate the digital radio ecosystem,”he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Strategic Steps Towards Digital Radio in Indonesia<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Regulation PM 5\/2023 is not an important thing in the journey of adopting digital radio technology in Indonesia. With this regulation, several broadcasting companies have begun to adopt digital systems, both in DAB+ and DRM broadcasts. This step is expected to provide better broadcast quality, efficient frequency usage, and improve the listener experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Ministry of Communication and Information also encourages digital radio device manufacturers to provide more affordable receivers for the public, so that digital radio penetration can run faster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
